Welcome to the Betaris Pro-social Schools Programme
Together we can make a difference!
The Prosocial Schools Programme has been developed by a number of specialist companies to provide a whole school Risk Reduction Strategy.
The programme provides schools access to specialist knowledge and experience to develop and maintain a positive and healthy learning environment.
Our development process begins by identifying and reporting the level of risk facing your school from threats such as:
- theft, criminal damage, arson
- abusive, threatening and assaultive behaviour
- power and communications failure
- natural disasters such as flooding etc
- kidnapping/missing child
- terrorist activity
Having reported the level of risk to your school we then provide you with an in-depth Action Plan listing the control measures needed to remove or reduce the identified threats.
We also provide you with step by step Incident Management Procedures which inform staff of the actions that need to be taken in the event of an incident occurring.
Further more we will provide you with Training Initiatives for the successful implementation of the Incident Management Procedures including the necessary knowledge and skills to become resilient to, respond to and recover from incidents with the minimal disruption to your school.
Risk Reduction Strategy
Betaris recognise that in order for schools to mitigate risk to their people and their operational output, they must have a robust and effective Risk Reduction Strategy that prepares them to be able to counter the existing environmental, social and technological hazards and threats that could affect them.
To achieve this goal, the Betaris approach is to work with the school utilising an integrated Risk Reduction Strategy. This strategy has three core strands as illustrated below:
1. Betaris Risk Reduction Strategy.
- Resilience. Resilience, in this context, is the anticipation of potential hazards or threats and subsequently the planning and preparation that prevents or lessens the impact of the incident or threat. The Betaris Threat Vulnerability Assessment is an initial survey to identify the current Threat & Vulnerability Profile of the school and provides the basis of a future risk reduction strategy. The results of the assessment allows Betaris to identify the schools’ training needs in priority order. This information is mapped across to identify the Betaris conflict management courses most suited to the unique requirements of the school. This element of the Betaris service also enables production of the Incident Management Procedures, incorporating step by step emergency ‘Immediate Action Drills' (IADs) to respond to various incidents. Additionally it could assist with the allocation of funding for implementation of new control measures.
- Response. This stage of the strategy focuses on the practical application of established Incident Management Procedures utilising the knowledge and skills acquired through the intervention training, to enable quick and effective response to, and where possible resolution, of a developing incident, in order to lessen any adverse impact on the organisation.
- Recovery. Post incident activity and planning enables the school to maintain organisational and learning continuity and minimise disruption. The schools’ planned recovery mechanisms will aim to achieve a rapid return to normal function. There should be opportunities to allow pupils and staff to recover and cope with experiences during this process. Incorporated in this would be a period of reflection and post incident support for staff and pupils, with concurrent reconstruction of damaged school property or the recovery of lost property.
