Pro-Social Conflict Management

The Health and Safety Executive define work related violence as:
“Any incident, in which a person is abused, threatened or assaulted in circumstances relating to their work.”
Within education this may be:
- Student(s) to student(s)
- Student(s) to staff member,
- Staff member to student,
- Staff member to staff member
- Caused by, involve, a parent or guardian,
- Caused by intruders on school premises
The behaviour can take the following forms:
- Racial harassment.
- Student to student verbal and physical abuse.
- Homophobic harassment.
- Verbal abuse of teachers by parents or guardians.
- Sexual Harassment.
- Vandalism and theft of teachers’ property.
- Vandalism and theft of school property.
Pro-social conflict management training deals specifically with providing the interpersonal skills to remain in C.O.N.T.R.O.L of an abusive, threatening and potentially violent situation and promote positive outcomes through problem solving approaches.
