Critical Incident Stress Management:
Group Crisis Intervention Training

The management of incidents that can cause psychological distress is increasingly important for organizations. This training is designed to present the core elements of a comprehensive, systematic and multi-component psychological crisis intervention system.

The three day course prepares participants to understand and deliver a wide range of crisis intervention services including:-

  • Pre and post incident crisis education
  • On scene support services for large scale disasters
  • Post incident support

Participants will also be taught to identify individuals requiring specialist support and how to access and advise on the most appropriate means of support.

The course teaches clinically effective interventions, complying with the latest guidelines issued to the NHS, and is accredited by the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation and the University of Maryland.

Critical Incident Stress Management: Your Trainers

Trish Waring

Before joining Pathways through Trauma as Operations Director, Trish spent 7 years as the Welfare Officer for Cheshire Police responsible for devising, implementing and evaluating the trauma support programme for police officers and civilian staff.

Her duties included assessing and supporting staff who were on sickness leave with mental health problems. Trish has also worked with ex-service personnel with a range of problems, including PTSD.

Trish is a qualified Critical Incident Stress Debriefer and Defuser and has many Advanced Trauma Management Certificates including training with international trauma consultants Atle Dyregrov and Jeffrey Mitchell. She specialises in early interventions for individuals and groups following traumatic incidents in the workplace.

Liz Royle

As Senior Welfare Officer for Greater Manchester Police up to 2004, Liz Royle was responsible for leading a team of police welfare officers in the provision of 24 hour trauma support for police officers. With Pathways through Trauma, she now works with Local Authorities, security services, transport companies, police federations, private and voluntary sectors providing crisis interventions, therapeutic support and proactive initiatives for managing trauma.

Liz has wide experience of Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) and has conducted CISD following incidents such as armed robberies, assaults, accidents, suicides and child murders. She provided immediate and ongoing psychological support following the murder of DC Stephen Oake in 2003, the M56 multiple fatality crash and the sudden death of a teacher in a North West school.

An accredited EMDR Consultant, Liz specialises in managing major incidents and the treatment of PTSD.

Both trainers are members of the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation and accredited as licensed trainers in Group CISM for ICISF.
