Suicide Risk Awareness
Aim of the course
The course aims to empower and educate participants so that some of the anxiety and uncertainty about dealing with client suicide ideation is removed.
N.B. It is NOT designed to train participants in suicide risk assessment or suicide intervention. The 2 day course Suicide Risk Management would be the appropriate course for that purpose.
Objectives
At the end of the course, participants will:
- Have explored myths, taboos and their own preconceptions of suicide
- Have a better understanding of suicidal behaviour and expression
- Be able to recognise an expression of suicide
- Be aware of the steps they can take when faced with suicidal ideation
- Be aware of the various sources of advice and support for appropriate referral
- Understand the effects of working with highly emotional clients
- Have considered their own support and self-care
