Trauma Stress Awareness
Aim of the course:
This course raises awareness about the risk of traumatic stress at work. It helps participants recognise and manage traumatic stress in themselves and others and introduces the employing organisation’s procedures for its management.
Objectives:
At the end of the course, participants will:
- Be able to recognise a potentially traumatic event
- Understand the physical, psychological and social effects of trauma
- Be able to differentiate between normal and abnormal reactions
- Be aware of the organisation’s policies and procedures for trauma support
- Be aware of the risk and control measures for their role
- Have considered how colleagues can support each other
- Be able to develop a range of simple coping skills that have been shown to reduce the impact of common reactions to traumatic stress
- Be aware of where to get further advice and support
