Pro social modelling for education

Although the importance of role modelling on the development of pro-social behaviour in children and young people has long been recognised, it is only relatively recently that staff in education, social care and health services have had access to professional training in pro-social modelling.

Managers and workers in these services are becoming increasingly aware that they can powerfully influence the attitudes and behaviours of their clients or staff by the very nature of the relationships they form and the interactions that occur in their contact.

Since the publication of his first research study, Dr Chris Trotter’s name has become synonymous with pro-social modelling and he has continued to study the positive effects of his model in an increasing number of settings.

The Cognitive Centre Foundation has been delivering training in pro social modelling for 7 years and is the only organisation in the UK approved by Chris Trotter as a provider of training programmes based on his work.

This training course, developed specifically for the Pro Social Schools Programme, is set in a clear theoretical framework and addresses the five main areas of Chris Trotters model:-

  • Role Clarification
  • Use of Legitimate Authority
  • Pro-social modelling
  • Problem solving
  • Relationship

The training uses a variety of methods including, demonstration, role play and feedback to ensure that workers skills are optimised.

Tailored to fit differing agency requirements, the programmes have been delivered successfully across the UK in many settings including schools, care facilities, social work and probation departments, health and other welfare organisations.

We welcome enquiries from any human service agency committed to improving its outcomes for service users and keen to contribute to a safer environment by investing in methods which are clearly supported by contemporary research.
